Dinghies for Hire and Bookings

Club-owned Boats

Members may hire club dinghies – we have 1 RS Feva, 1 Laser Bahia, 2 RS Quests, 2 Scows, 1 Wanderer, and 8 Picos for hire at £10 per session (£50 per month) per boat, and for younger members 3 RS Teras and 6 training Oppies at £5 per session (£25 per month) per boat.  Our rowing boats – 3 small tenders, and 2 “Peanut” dinghies (for children learning to row) – can be borrowed free of charge.

The boats can be hired by full members of the club for £10 a day/£50 a month (Feva, Quests, Scows, Wanderer, Bahia and Picos) and £5 a day/£25 a month (Teras and Europtis).   Members may purchase a “Season Ticket” for £150 which will entitle them to hire any of the Club dinghies (except the Quests) as many times as they like during the sailing season (March to December).  Under this scheme they may not book any boat more than two weeks in advance.   Members should contact the Sailing Secretary to arrange this.  The cost of hiring a Club boat for use in a YSC training session is half the normal price.

Hirers of the Feva, Bahia or Quests who need instruction on rigging or sailing them should contact André Usborne (andreusborne@gmail.com, 01983 759758).

Policy on Hire of Club Boats

YSC has a number of boats which are available for full members who are competent sailors to hire.  On an occasional basis, the Club checks the boats but it is always the responsibility of the hirer to check that each time they use a Club boat it is in seaworthy condition and is returned to the boat park in similar condition.  It is also the responsibility of the member hiring a boat to decide whether they have the necessary skills to sail in the conditions prevailing at the time of the hire and forecast for the duration of the hire.  When cadets/juniors hire boats, it is the responsibility of their responsible adult to discharge these duties of care.

A member wishing to hire a boat to sail at a site other than YSC must make their intentions known to the Sailing Secretary and arrange to have the boat checked back in to the YSC boat park at the end of the hire.

If a fault is noted with any of the Club boats, the member identifying that fault must inform the Bosun – in person, by email or by leaving a written note on the whiteboard in the Club.

Club boats are not available for temporary members to hire.  Recognised RYA-affiliated organisations may be able to arrange to hire YSC Club boats for their members to sail on the River Yar by initially contacting the Sailing Secretary who will determine availability of boats and terms of hire.

Anyone responsible for any loss or damage of a Club boat must be responsible for replacing any lost item or, if the loss or damage is the subject of an insurance claim, must pay the insurance excess for that claim.
